Microsoft is investing $3.2 billion in the UK over the next three years, primarily in AI infrastructure and development, to support the country's economic growth and expand its datacenter footprint.

  2. Google delays launch of Gemini AI to early 2024

CEO Sundar Pichai recently decided to scrap a series of Gemini events, originally scheduled for next week in California, New York and Washington, after the company found the AI didn’t reliably handle some non-English queries.

  3. Everything Amazon’s announced last week, from new AI tools to LLM updates and more

During the AWS re:Invent event, Amazon reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining its leadership in the cloud computing industry by emphasizing the crucial role of AI. AWS CEO Adam Selipsky, introducing a range of new offerings, including Amazon Neptune Analytics, AWS Clean Rooms ML for secure AI collaborations, SageMaker HyperPod for large language model training, and Amazon Q, an AI-powered chatbot. AWS also introduced new AI chips, performance enhancements like Amazon S3 Express One Zone, serverless solutions for database management, and an expanded palm-scanning identity service, solidifying its position as a market leader.

  4. Millions of new materials discovered with deep learning

Google’s Deepmind AI tool GNoME finds 2.2 million new crystals-equivalent to nearly 800 years’ worth of knowledge.Among these discoveries, 380,000 are highly stable and promising for experimental synthesis, potentially leading to transformative technologies such as superconductors, advanced batteries, and more efficient electric vehicles. This work demonstrates the potential of using AI to revolutionize materials discovery and development, with external researchers already validating many of the AI's predictions.

  5. Microsoft president says no chance of super-intelligent AI soon

Microsoft's President, Brad Smith, stated that there is no chance of achieving super-intelligent artificial intelligence within the next 12 months, emphasizing the need for a focus on safety despite the rapid advancements in AI. Smith also dismissed claims that OpenAI founder Sam Altman's departure was due to concerns about dangerous AI, saying it was more about a divergence between the board and others within the company.

AI Repos

  1. google-deepmind / materials_discovery

From microchips to batteries and photovoltaics, discovery of inorganic crystals is a fundamental problem in materials science. Graph Networks for Materials Science (GNoME) is a project centered around scaling machine learning methods to tackle this core task. With results recently published, this repository serves to share the discovery of 381,000 novel stable materials with the wider materials science community and hopefully enable exciting new research via the updated convex hull. This is a research project, not an official Google product.

  2. AntonOsika / gpt-engineer

GPT Engineer is made to be easy to adapt, extend, and make your agent learn how you want your code to look. It generates an entire codebase based on a prompt.
